Abbott Launches New Adult Nutrition Product As India’s Healthy Ageing Market Expands

Abbott has introduced Ensure Strength Pro in India, a new nutritional supplement aimed at adults navigating age-related changes in muscle strength, bone health, metabolism, and immunity.

The launch reflects increasing industry focus on healthy ageing and preventive nutrition, particularly as India’s population faces rising nutritional deficiencies and lifestyle-related health concerns.

According to Abbott, the product is formulated with 31 nutrients, including 30 grams of protein, and is designed to support seven physiological areas often affected by ageing: muscles, bones, heart, blood cells, immune function, metabolism, and the nervous system.

The company cited broader health trends showing that adults can lose up to one-third of muscle mass between the ages of 40 and 80, while bone density, metabolic efficiency, and immune resilience also tend to decline over time. In India, dietary diversity and micronutrient adequacy remain public health challenges, with multiple studies indicating persistent nutrient gaps across age groups.

Anirban Basu, General Manager for Abbott’s nutrition business in India, said the product is intended to address evolving nutritional requirements among ageing adults, particularly where dietary inadequacies may affect long-term strength and independence.

Medical experts increasingly note that healthy ageing is influenced not only by protein intake but also by broader nutritional support involving calcium, vitamin D, B vitamins, iron, zinc, selenium, and other micronutrients linked to bone, metabolic, and immune health.

Abbott said the formulation includes nutrients associated with bone maintenance, thyroid function, energy metabolism, and immune support, while also incorporating lower fat and sugar content relative to conventional nutrition categories.

The launch is part of Abbott’s broader “Power of 7” initiative, which centres on consumer awareness around interconnected aspects of ageing and nutrition.

India’s adult nutrition market has seen growing expansion as healthcare companies increasingly target preventive wellness for middle-aged and older consumers, particularly in urban centres where awareness around sarcopenia, metabolic disorders, and lifestyle-related decline is rising.
